Recently, the Philippines decided to recall their ambassadors and consul following the 15 days deadline of the removal of the tons of garbage which was dumped by a Canadian firm to the Philippines way back 2013 and 2014.

Many OFWs feared their situation in Canada. However, according to a political analyst, the effects will be less to nothing towards the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).

According to Edmund Tayao, a political analyst, OFWs in Canada should not be worried as there is also the US Embassy that will help them of their needs.

“Ang mga OFWs naman natin diyan, kung baga, karamihan mga professional o mga skilled workers at kahit na
ipagpalagay mong mababawasan tayo ng embahada o consulado sa bansang Canada mayroon namang pupuwede
sumakop diyan, may embahada at consular offices tayo sa Amerika," says Tayao.

It can be recalled that Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locson Jr. recalled the ambassadors and consul of Philippines in Canada after the latter failed to remove the tons of garbage which was sent to the Philippines by a Canadian firm.

The government allegedly gave until May 15 for Canada to get the garbage but they failed to do so. Even the representative of Canada failed to appear with their meeting together with the Bureau of Customs.

The said move is to set as a warning to Canada that the Philippines is really serious about the issue of garbage.

“The fact alone that Secretary Locsin has recalled our diplomats there shows that we’re not only are we serious, but we’re also already warning them we’re gonna sever diplomatic relations,” says Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
