Travel tax exemption for OFW dependents passes through the final reading of KAMARA.

Members of the KAMARA had no objections and voted for the passing of travel tax exemption among OFW dependents.

The House Bill 6138 gives travel tax exemption to the dependents of married or solo parent OFWs. The bill also seeks to provide OFWs with the same privilege in exchange for their huge contribution to the economic development of the Philippines.

The bill amends the Republic Act 8042 or Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act of 1995. Aside from the travel tax, OFW dependents are also exempted from documentary stamp tax as airport fee.

This move will not just remove some of the burdens of OFW dependents but for OFWs as well. Aside from travel tax exemption, OWWA also provides financial assistance to OFW dependents who active members of the organization.

The OFW must have a salary not exceeding US$400/month (PhP20,000). Qualified dependents will receive PhP20,000 cash assistance every year and allowed to enroll a four or five-year college course in a state college or university in the Philippines.

For more information, you can also check the OWWA website or visit the nearest office to inquire for other benefits of OFW dependents.
