A Filipina domestic helper is in a coma after getting struck by a taxi that went out of control in Hong Kong.
Marilou P. Abunda was taken to Queen Mary Hospital following a road accident in Aberdeen, Hong Kong. She took her 10-year-old ward to school when the road mishap happened.
The 46-year-old woman just had her birthday last May 23 when she went into a coma upon her arrival to the hospital although she was found still in conscious by the police after the mishap.
Welfare officer Marivic Clarin asked hospital staff regarding the condition of Abunda and they confirmed that she does not appear good.
“Pinatingnan naman sa amin pero ayaw magsalita ng mga nurses. Kinalbona siya dahil may brain hemorrhage,” says Clarin. However, she cannot confirm if Abunda will have to undergo an operation.
Clarin also said that Abunda sustained more injuries after she tried to shield an old woman from the taxi. Abunda’s friends, on the other hand, felt totally devastated because a day before the incident, they gathered to celebrate the birthday of the woman and hangout in Central.
It was a simple yet fun birthday celebration. Little did they know that a huge accident will happen just hours after their get-together.
Abunda got separated from her husband for many years and do have a child, worked for Chris Lee and his family for 16 years.
Her employer is looking after Abunda very well and already working into getting her relatives fly to Hong Kong to comfort her.
Fortunately, through the help of several government agencies, Lee was able to issue an invitation to the sister-in-law and niece of Abunda. They are set to fly to Hong Kong as soon as possible to be at the side of Abunda.
