One to two hours delayed on your flight is already a pain. However, it seems like passengers of this Pakistani International Airlines flight had to endure more after their flight got delayed for 7 hours because a female passenger opened the emergency exit thinking that it was the toilet door.

“The PIA flight, PK 702, from Manchester to Islamabad was delayed by seven hours. The departure was delayed on Friday night when a passenger erroneously opened the emergency exit causing the emergency chute to activate,” says one of the spokespeople of PIA.

According to reports, the incident happened just minutes before the plane takes off. A female passenger opened the emergency exit door thinking that it was the toilet door. All passengers had to be offloaded from the plane and their luggage was also removed. They also had to stay in hotels.

“As per standard operating procedure, the PIA had to offload nearly 40 passengers and their luggage,” says the spokesperson.

An inquiry was done following the order of PIA chief executive Air Marshal Arshad Malik. As per the aviation industry expert, planes having to deploy emergency slides are not considered a small incident. The airline actually spends $6,000 to $30,000 every time the emergency chute gets activated.

Somebody from the flight should start introducing toilet doors to passengers or risk paying this huge sum of money plus the hassle and delay.
