“Inila-lock po ‘yung pinto namin, hindi po kami makalabas. Sa isang araw po bibigyan lang kami ng pagkain, isang beses lang,” says one of the OFW who chose to hide her identity.

According to GMA News, these Filipinos went to UAE using tourist visas to look for a job.

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in UAE records over 300 OFWs under their care and most of them went to the country using a tourist visa in the hopes of finding a job.

According to Labor Attache Felicitas Bay, there are already some Filipinos who were repatriated but the number of undocumented Filipinos in UAE is still sky high.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, meanwhile, has yet to comment regarding the issue.

Just recently, images and videos of Filipinos in UAE circulated online. In the said video, OFWs can be seen lying on the floor, squeezing themselves in a small room which was allocated for them. Reports claim that these Filipinos are mostly victims of employers who treated them badly.

Aspiring OFWs are also reminded not to transact with individuals that you just met online as they might cause you more trouble than you can ever expect.
