Five Overseas Filipino Workers lost their possessions after a fire broke out inside their apartment in the United Arab Emirates.

Two Filipino victims identified as Cristina Mina and Mitch Manalo, lost their Emirates IDs, passports, other important documents as well as two balikbayan boxes and clothing that Mina had to fill up for a year. All were gone when their rented apartment at International City caught fire.

“Nakakapang-hinayang,” says Manalo in an interview. “Puno na ng padalaiyon. Almost 1 year konginipon – mgadamit, sabon, asukal, groceries.”

“Isangtaongpinuno, ilangoraslangwalana,” Manalo added.

Meanwhile, Mina, whose birthday is today, said that her balikbayan box contained a wristwatch for her father.

“Angtagal din… halos mag-iisangtaonkongpinuno. Inu-unti-untiko lang. Mapupunonasana ng husto. Hinihintaykolangyungperamulasapaluwagan. Kaso, hindikonamaipapadalakasisunogna,” she added.

Other three OFWs works as a household service workers who are on a “live-out’ arrangement.

The OFWs are currently staying at a neighbor’s unit by the street. Thankfully, help keeps on pouring their way despite the sad incident that they had.
