A Filipina domestic helper was found lifeless on her bed in Shaukeiwan, Hong Kong last August 12,

Heatstroke is the alleged culprit over the demise of a 63-year-old Filipina known to have a heart ailment. She was found on her bed by her employer in HK.

Milagrosa M. Aligaen, who have 2 grown-up sons, was found lifeless by her 62-year-old employer on the lower part of a bunk bed which they shared together.

Sister-in-law of Aligaen, Elsa Cordero, claims that the employer of the OFW called the police after finding her maid motionless. Aligaen was taken to the Nethersole Eastern Hospital where she was pronounced lifeless. Cordero was immediately notified over the incident.

Aligaen, from Maasin, Iloilo, regularly takes maintenance medicines as she is said to have a heart problem. Aligaen last met with Cordero the same day that she was found lifeless. It is said that the woman complained of the hot weather making her unable to sleep and had difficulty breathing.

“Sinasabi niya naiinitan siya at nahihirapang huminga dahil sa init pero ayaw ng amo niyang magbukas ng aircon,” says Cordero.

The apartment of her employer is small enough that they had to share the bunk bed, where the employer occupies the upper deck and Aligaen at the lower deck. The woman also uses a portable, tiny electric fan to cool herself.

Over the past few days, the Hong Kong Observatory has issued a hot weather warning as the temperature in the city reaches 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.
