We’ve heard of news of taxi drivers returning valuables left by passengers. Though it sounds uplifting, it’s sad to think that there are also horror stories of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) being fooled by tampered taxi meters.

Facebook user Bien Leabres shares his encounter on social media regarding a taxi with a tampered meter. Once a taxi meter gets tampered, it spells higher fare since it is already manipulated to show higher cost.

According to Bien, from NAIA to Alabang, he had to pay PhP630 when actually the normal rate ranges only from PhP350-400.

Bien took a taxi from NAIA to ALABANG. However, when they are halfway to his destination, he noticed that the fare is already very high. He immediately checked the meter and true to his suspicion, the seal was already broken. The usual pay for NAIA to Alabang is only PhP350-400 but this time, when he reached his destination, it was PhP630.

Bien acted cool and secretly took a picture of the tampered meter and reported the incident to NAIA police as well as to DOTr. They acted immediately and the taxi driver was arrested.

Bien thanked Col. Alden Gay, APO3 Adrian Sagun and the rest of the airport police who was there to offer their help and the fast response as well.

A case will be filed to the driver and operator after the investigation.

Bien thinks that this is not the first time the driver victimized someone who didn’t notice the tampered meter.

Tampered Taxi Meter; ₱630 from NAIA to Alabang. Please watch out for tampered taxi meters and report it. For sure…
