A Filipina employee in Dubai was lauded for her honesty after she returned a bag left by a customer inside a café at Dubai Mall.

According to the Dubai Police, the bag contained Dh195,000 (PhP2,730,000), 2 cheques worth Dh500,000 (PhP7 Million) and Dh6,500 (PhP91,000), a check book and a couple of personal documents.

The Filipina Starbucks employee was identified as Mae Anne Olmidillo. Colonel Rashid Mohammed Saleh Al-Shehhi, acting director of Bur Dubai police lauded the Filipino for her honesty as well as her positive response when it comes to giving emphasize to the importance of the partnership between the police and the community.

“I and my colleague Rosslyn Nini found the bag at 6pm at the store we work in, which is the Starbucks in Reel Cinemas in Dubai Mall. We kept it for a while and thought maybe the owner would come back to pick it up,” says the Filipina who worked at Starbucks for 6 years.

“After two hours, no one came and we checked what was inside the bag. When we opened it, I was shocked to find so much money. I told my district manager and then we called our lost prevention department and tried to check the CCTV cameras, but no luck,” she added.

According to Mae Anne, they called the police to notify the incident. The police were able to trace the person who left the bag and they called him. He was sleeping and was surprised about the call as he didn’t notice that the bag went missing.

Mae Anne has a deep conviction of Karma and hopes that someday when facing the same situation, the kindness she sowed will be returned to her.
