Most of the time, we see Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) posting on Facebook about their situation and encounters with their employers as they think that this is the fastest way to reach for help.
Finally, the Department of Foreign Affairs launched a Facebook page dedicated to distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
According to GMA News, the DFA launched the Facebook page with the name “OFW Help”. This page aims to help OFWs who needs the assistance of the government.
Facebook is the most popular social media platform among OFWs. By this, the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Worker’s Affairs got an idea to establish a system that’s smoother and well-organized when it comes to processing OFW concerns.
In a recent survey, it claims that more than half of OFW families utilize Facebook as a means of communicating with their loved ones, all around the world.
Even OFWs who cannot go to the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate can formally seek help from authorities using the Facebook page.
Concerns of undocumented OFWs will also be catered in this page. Those who are not certified member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) can also benefit over this Facebook page.
This is good news to all OFWs who are seeking help from their ill-treating employer. This should be a good move in helping curb bad treatment among Filipino domestic helpers abroad.
