An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was rushed to a hospital in Hong Kong after inhaling tear gas and falling unconscious.
According to The Sun Hong Kong, OFW Joy Palmera was taken to the hospital on Oct 6 after she fell unconscious after inhaling the tear gas thrown by the police supposedly for the protesters in Wanchai. Fortunately, she is already back in her employer’s house.
The 30-year-old Filipina was discharged from Ruttonjee Hospital and tests showed that she is already recovering from the inhaled fumes of the tear-gas.
According to reports, the OFW was just finished playing basketball at Southern Playground when protesters clashed the area and police arrived. Officers then threw teargas to the protesters and they retreated to the playground where the OFW is resting.
Emergency workers rushed to Palmera even before she fell unconscious as she choked after inhaling fumes. They took care of her after seeing that she had difficulty breathing.
Friends of Palmera were able to cover their faces when the tear-gas was thrown. In another video, one of Palmera’s friends even tried to stop her from being taken to the hospital thinking that she will be taken into police custody.
Filipinos in Hong Kong are reminded to check the regular advisories released by the Philippine Consulate as to the list of places where protesters will arrive. It is best if Filipinos will avoid these places and also refrain from wearing black and white tops.
