The fear of many is really happening – the highest security alert level was raised in Middle East countries including Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon following the conflict with the United States, according to GMA News.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III confirmed during the press briefing that Alert Level 4 was raised in Middle East countries Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said that this Alert Level 4 means that “there is a large-scale internal conflict or full-blown external attack.” Because of this, mandatory repatriation is required.

Additionally, senior labor officials will soon visit several Middle East countries particularly in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait to supervise Filipinos in case of mandatory repatriation. It is estimated that there are 2.1 million Filipinos living and working in the Middle East.

“This could double because of the presence of undocumented OFWs,” he added. “We have to locate ‘yung mga undocumented.”

Labor Secretary Bello also said that they are willing to utilize the P100 million budget for repatriation for Filipinos in the Middle East just to make sure that there will be no problems with their food and medicines.

The labor department is also tracking other employment opportunities in countries like China, Canada, Russia, Germany, and Japan for Filipinos who will be affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
