Giving the fact that Ivana Alawi almost has the best life, she also had her fair share of despair when she was little, while she was still living abroad with her family.

Ivana said that she was judged by other people for having a Filipina Mother, Fatima Marbella and Moroccan father, Samier Alawi.

She grew up in Bahrain together with her two elder siblings.

“Kasi nag-aral kami sa Bahrain. So more of, like, mga Arabs ang nandun,” Ivana said. “And sinusundo talaga ako ni Mommy kasi masipag siya, hands on siya talaga sa amin.”

There were times when I have met people with low respect for Filipinos.

“And then, nung sinusundo niya kami… May mga iilang tao, mga estudyantet sakay ung nanay, mababa yung tinginsamga Pilipino,” says Ivana.

Ivana said that her mother was being criticized openly before.

“Is that your helper?” says someone upon seeing Ivana’s mother. “No! That’s my mom,” Ivana immediately responded.

Ivana also thinks that Filipinos should not be taken lightly as they are very hard-working.

Ivana respects and loves her mother so much. However, her parents were separated since her mother was pregnant with her youngest sister Mona Louise Rey.

Ivana first had a big break on ABS-CBN when she got included in the part-time series, “ Sino Ang May Sala?”
