Surgical masks and other masks that protect the COVID-19 outbreak seems to be in scarcity nowadays. But good news! It turns out that wearing masks are not necessary for some places.
The National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced on its official website the recommended places to use and put on the mask. It is said that if you are going outdoors and uncrowded places with good airflow, wearing a face mask is considered unnecessary.
If you will get yourself exposed to restaurants, public transportations, malls, offices, bars, and other crowded places, health experts recommend putting on your mask BUT only if you get near, 1 meter, another individual.
For individuals experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 such as cough, tiredness, fever, difficulty breathing and others, it is best to wear the single-use mask.
For places considered high risk, it is said that single-use masks or medical masks are highly needed.
The announcement sheds some light especially now that there is a global shortage of masks. Just this month, the US granted China tariff exemptions for medical products and protective masks to aid the shortage.
Meanwhile, kind-hearted people such as Jack Ma, Alibaba founder, donated six million masks, testing kits and hazmat suits to African nations.
“Drawing from my own country’s experience, speedy and accurate testing and adequate personal protective equipment for medical professionals are the most effective in preventing the spread of the virus.”
