The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reminds the public that the beneficiary of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) includes the families of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
SAP is a program of the government that aims to assist the Filipino families gravely affected by the lockdown to control the spread of COVID-19.
According to the DSWD, they are considering the families of the OFWs as “vulnerable members of the community” since they cannot receive remittance as of the moment.
Philippines is not the only country experiencing hardship in the battle against COVID-19. The virus has been spread all over the world and Filipino workers abroad are also affected by the pandemic.
Included in the assistance program of the government are the families of OFWs who were repatriated due to COVID-19. The DSWD said that families of OFWs should coordinate with the local government or barangay to get included in the program.
Under the government program SAP, Filipino families can receive around P5,000 to P8,000 cash assistance to help them get through with the crisis caused by the pandemic.
In the latest bulletin released by the Department of Health, there are now 11,350 COVID-19 patients in the country. There are 2,106 recoveries while 751 succumbed to the disease.
