After testing positive COVID-19, a Filipino worker in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia lost her job as her employer fired her.

The OFW identified only as Lea was left without a choice and posted her concern on social media. She pleaded for help as she was treated differently at the rehabilitation center where she currently stays.

“Parang awa niyo po tulungan niyo po ako. Nandito po ako sa trabaho ko sa rehabilitation. Nagpositive po ako ng COVID. Nanghihinapoako. Hindi kona kaya. Diyosko, tulungan niyo po ako,” says in a video that she uploaded on Facebook. “Pinandidirihan nila ako rito. Diyosko.”

However, just a few hours after posting the video on social media, the OFW was forced to leave the accommodation given by her employer. Left without a choice, Lea stayed on the street. Some OFWs saw the situation of Lea. Though they offered food for her, they cannot provide a place for her.

The Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, after numerous call attempts, finally responded and sent an ambulance to pick up Lea.

According to her husband in the Philippines, they do not know how Lea got infected with COVID-19. They were also not able to contact Lea as her phone was turned off.

“Hihingia ko ng tulong posa embassy ng Pilipinas para hindi naman po mapabayaan doon. Talagang nabigla ako, nalungkot,” says Lea’s husband.

The Philippine Embassy claims that they are having a hard time reaching the Saudi authorities regarding the current situation of the Filipino workers in the Kingdom. However, they already filed a diplomatic notice to follow-up on the case of the OFW.
