A pregnant Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is asking for help to be repatriated back to the Philippines. However, while video-chatting and asking for help, the OFW accidentally gave birth before she was even taken to the hospital.

Teresa gave birth to a healthy baby girl past midnight inside her room while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. The OFW is just one of the many OFWs who were stranded in Saudi Arabia because of the international travel ban that the Kingdom implemented to curb the growing cases of COVID-19.

In an interview, Teresa confessed that she went home to the Philippines last October for an emergency leave. It is then that her husband impregnated her.

Teresa only knew that she was pregnant upon her return to Saudi Arabia. She immediately informed her employer but was asked to return only after the end of Ramadan.

The Ramadan ended but Teresa couldn’t return home because of the lockdown. Her employer already issued an exit visa for her but she couldn’t get a flight back to the Philippines.

Teresa asked for assistance from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Jeddah. She applied for a repatriation flight but still couldn’t go home until she gave birth to her child.

Meanwhile, her recruitment agency promised to help her return to the Philippines. She is currently staying in the accommodation center given to her by her agency.

“We will bring her to our accommodation. She will stay there while processing the repatriation. We will help the worker kung ano ang maitutulong namin para ma-expedite yung pag-uwi nila ng baby niya, and then of course we will coordinate sa embassy kasi they are the one who will help sa pagpapauwi especially sa mga documents,” says the recruitment agency of Teresa.
