The Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who was found to have cancer succumbs to the disease last Sept. 20.
OFW Merle Bonagua was recently rescued from ill-treating employers in Hong Kong. However, after the good news, comes devastating news for Merle. She was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and had been staying in the hospital.
But on September 20, around 3:30 in the morning, Merle passed away in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. According to Merle’s cousin, Teresita Panti, the Filipina was already in life support since “cancer had spread to her liver and lungs and she was in great pain.”
Before the passing of Merle, her belly was seen to have bulged a lot as if she is eight months pregnant.
Merle was recently rescued from her employer’s house through a report from her neighbor. It is said that Merle was already struggling with abdominal pain and yet, her employers still force her to work.
The family of Merle in Polilo Island, Quezon was already informed about her passing. As for the Philippine Consulate in HK, they confirmed that they “are fully aware of the case.”
Condolence to the bereaved family of the OFW.
