Philippine Ambassadors stationed outside the Philippines have a very particular task – to assist the needs of Overseas Filipino Workers and other related services.

However, in the case of this Filipino worker in Brazil, instead of being treated like family, especially since they are both Filipinos living outside their hometown, she was treated harshly by none other than the Philippine Ambassador to Brazil.

In video footage which was featured in Brazil’s local news Agency ‘Globo News’, Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro can be seen hitting, berating, and mistreating her household staff.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is already coordinating with the victim who already returned to the Philippines. They also promised to sternly investigate the said incident.

“The DFA is reaching out to her to ensure her well-being and cooperation in the investigation,” says the DFA.

Meanwhile, the household staff of Mauro already returned to the Philippines last October 21. Mauro was appointed in Brazil last 2018.

The name of the household help of Mauro was not revealed but it is said that the Filipina is already 51 years old. It is said that one of the employees saw the very disturbing video and reported it to the Labor Ministry of Brazil.

The Foreign Affairs department is also recalling the Ambassador immediately to explain herself amidst this controversy.

As of the moment, Mauro remains mum on the issues thrown to her.
