Back in the day, foreign nationals are not given citizenship in the United Arab Emirates despite being born and stayed in the country for a couple of years. The citizenship rules in the country are totally different from other countries like in the United Kingdom.
But now, a glimpse of hope has been shed among expats in UAE and Filipinos as well over the amendments of the country’s passport laws has been passed.
According to UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a historic policy allowing selected expats as well as professionals to obtain UAE passport and citizenship.
The passport granted to UAE citizens is known as one of the world’s most powerful passports and free-free to 71 countries while visa-on-arrival is a privilege given to additional 47 countries.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid said that this historical move is a means to attract exceptional talents that will help build the nation.
“We adopted law amendments that allow granting the UAE citizenship to investors, specialized talents & professionals including scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, authors, and their families. The new directives aim to attract talents that contribute to our development journey,” says the Dubai ruler.
This is such a historic and surprising move considering that it is the first among the Gulf Arab nation. When an expat meets the said qualifications, he will be nominated by the federal entities and the UAE officials will confirm it.
